Bomb found at Delhi’s Ghazipur flower market exploded in open ground: what we know

Delhi police recovered a IED by Ghazipur Flower Marketaccording to TNN. The bomb exploded in open ground and was diffused. The first visuals showed the specialist NSG team recovering it.

ANI shared a photo of the abandoned bag that had the IED on the inside.

“Based on information received, an IED has been recovered,” Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said.


This is just before the Republic Day parade on January 26.

“A case is being registered in the Delhi Police Special Cell under the provisions of the Explosives Act,” a Delhi police officer said.

A passerby spotted the IED and called the fire department.

What happened?

According to IANS, the Delhi Fire Department received the call at around 10:20 a.m. about an unattended bag at the Ghazipur flower market. 2 fire engines, a bomb disposal team and Delhi Disaster Management Authority officials were on the scene in record time.


A robotic scanner scanned the bag. According to Times Now, officials said the suspected bag found at Ghazipur Sabzi Mandi was taken to open ground using a pit, buried 8ft below the ground.

The place was sealed off and the IED was released by a controlled explosion.

“A National Security Guard bomb disposal team has defused the IED recovered from Ghazipur. Samples of the IED have been taken; the team is to submit a report on the chemical component used to assemble the explosive,” the NSG said.
