In an effort to attract more shoppers, the Hopkins County Farmers Market will officially open at 8 a.m. Saturday at Mahr Park Arboretum.

Manager Bunny Wickham said the market had always been a place where someone could get a whole meal – including meat, produce and fruit – now they can get desserts and decor items. too much.

She said all 10 vendors in the market last year have confirmed their participation, with four new vendors added.

There is a florist who will sell fresh cut flowers, a baker and a seamstress, she said.

The market will be held at the Danny Peyton Outdoor Education Center in the park from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, she said. Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., the market will be at Baptist Health Madisonville.

Wickham said the market has moved from Wednesday to Tuesday to accommodate more vendors. Offering evening hours also opens the market for people who can work during the day.

“That’s why we try to do a few evening hours so that we can attract not only more customers, but also more suppliers could be in the market,” said Wickham, who said he wanted to develop the farmers market for the for several years, but their previous location did not provide sufficient space.

“We are very happy to grow up,” she says.

Although the market now has room for more suppliers, they are limited by COVID-19 guidelines. Wickham said they will make sure there is six feet between each stand.

The market follows CDC and Hopkins County Department of Health guidelines, as well as wearing masks, using hand sanitizer, and a six-foot distance. She said they were asking customers to look with their eyes, not their hands, to avoid spreading COVID-19.

“We would just like the customer to shop with their eyes and tell us what they would like, and we’ll bag it for them,” Wickham said. “We try to keep it as contactless as possible.”

Although the Farmers Market is no longer accepting vendors for this year, those interested can apply to be put on a list for next year.

Madurai: The Wholesale Flower Merchants Association of the Madurai Central Flower Market in Mattuthavani has decided to take the market committee to court for sealing six stores for “ violation of physical distance and the mask rule facial ”. The collector gave the committee the power to ensure compliance of covid in the marketplace.
Speaking to reporters in Madurai on Monday, SMS association president Ramachandran and secretary R Muthu said the Matuthavani flower market Mercy Jeyarani and its staff Thirumurugan and Selvam have asked for additional money from traders in the name of inspections.
The market, which opened in 2006, has 104 stores which were sold by outright purchase. The buyers paid the money in installments over a period of eight years and was completed in 2015. After paying the dues, their agreement with the market committee was that they had to pay the monthly maintenance fee while the committee would take care of the maintenance of the market complex. It went smoothly for about 12 to 13 years until Mercy took over as secretary.
She billed each store 50 rupees per day on behalf of Covid-19, which represents 5,200 rupees collected daily from the 104 stores. As restrictions were imposed due to the second wave, six stores were closed by the committee on April 26 without citing a valid reason or issuing a rationale, according to traders.
When contacted, Mercy Jeyarani said she sealed the stores after pasting notices on all six stores because they violated social distancing and face mask rules. “The committee erected the barricades at our expense. Stores were only asked to donate 50 rupees a day for covid compliance, such as appointing people to perform thermal checks and hand sanitization. The allegations of the traders are totally false, ”she said, adding that only one of the six associations of traders present in the market made these allegations. She added that two people had been designated to comply with the covid for a monthly salary of Rs 3,200 each, with the exception of masks and disinfectants.

The House bill was all but doomed to failure when Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis told reporters last month he would not approve the measure. A more stringent complementary measure by the Senate was never on the agenda of its first committee.

However, next year’s state budget, which the legislature is expected to approve next week, includes more than $ 4 million for the state’s Department of Health to expand marijuana testing to the THC concentration.

The strong weed debate is not going to end in Florida or anywhere else. But so far, most lawmakers have been unwilling to approve tough caps for an industry expected to double in size – topping $ 40 billion – over the next four years.
