Coimbatore: Overloaded truck causes road collapse at flower market | Coimbatore News

COIMBATORE: The road collapsed on Devangapettai Street at Poo Market on Wednesday morning because it could not support the weight of a truck overloaded with bricks. The truck also got stuck on the collapsed road.
A town officer said the truck, which came from Bengaluru, jumped off the main road to escape police and took to the streets to reach a hardware store in RS Puram.
K Srihari, 23, a resident of Devangapettai, said: “As soon as she entered Devangapettai Street at Poo Market at 11 am, the road collapsed, damaging the underground drainage pipeline below. . The truck rolled over on its left side and got stuck on the collapsed road.
He said the truck driver abandoned the truck and escaped the area when they alerted police.
The owner of the truck, however, arrived on site in the afternoon after the police ordered the vehicle to be confiscated. “Another vehicle was brought in to load the bricks and take the truck off the street,” he said.
The municipal company official said the ground under the road had loosened due to the relentless rain over the past few days. “As such, the road could not support the weight of the overloaded truck. We are planning to fine the owner of the truck for damaging the underground drainage pipeline.
