Colchester participates in Wreaths Across America – Hartford Courant

Colchester – Members of the local armed forces, local scouts, members of the Westchester Cemetery Association, the Colchester First Selectman and others participated in a Wreaths Across America event held at Westchester Cemetery on December 18 .

Roberta Avery, a member of the Cemetery Association, was the mistress of ceremonies for the event, while first selector Andreas Bisbikos spoke a few words. Local scouts helped distribute wreaths at servicemen’s graves, and members of the local armed forces provided a Color Guard, rifle salute, and bugle rendition of Taps.

Started by the Worcester Wreath Company in 1992, National Wreaths Across America Day has grown to encompass a wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as more than 2,500 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. Wreaths Across America’s mission is to “Remember, Honor and Teach,” according to the organization’s website.
