“Do not place crowns, but play the ‘Chandrakalabham’ of Vayalar”, had wished PT Thomas; his eyes donated

Kochi: The eyes of veteran Congress leader PT Thomas, who died on Wednesday, were donated as he wished.

Thomas, who held unique sociopolitical views, also had several notable plans for his death. He left a note on Nov. 22 detailing what needs to be done at the time of his passing.

As Thomas requested, his remains will be cremated at Ravipuram Crematorium here at 5.30pm on Thursday. His ashes will then be buried in the family tomb at Upputhodu in Idukki district, where his mother rests.

No crown should be placed on the body. But Vayalar’s popular song “Chandrakalabham Charthi Urangum Theeram” is expected to be played during the cremation, PT had written as soon as he was informed of his serious condition.

Opposition leader VD Satheesan said his family had been consulted on the matter and the late leader’s last wishes would be granted.

Around 6 a.m., the body will be taken back to its residence in Palarivattom. An hour later, tributes will be paid at the DCC office, where party workers are expected to gather.

At 8:30 a.m., the body will be taken to City Hall for a public tribute, where national leader Rahul Gandhi will pay his respects.

The body will be kept at Thrikkkakara community hall for homage at 1:30 p.m. and from there the funeral procession will proceed to Ravipuram.
