Gurgaon: The Flower Market and Flower Center of Excellence that was to be set up in Sector 52A will most likely be set up on the outskirts of Gurgaon, with the Additional Chief Secretary (Agriculture) exploring the options available.
Officials say although the facility, which was supposed to be jointly developed by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB), was supposed to be located on 11.41 acres of land. in sector 52A. , it was decided at a meeting last month that the proposed terrain was “not suitable” for this purpose.
“We had a meeting with the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Agriculture in November, where it was decided that the land offered by GMDA in sector 52A was not suitable for the project and, instead, the administrator. Haryana Shahari Chief Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) would identify another 8 to 12 acres of land for flower market development, ”said a senior GMDA official who declined to be named.
The issue was further discussed at the Ninth GMDA Authority Meeting held earlier this month, where Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who is also GMDA Chairman, spoke ordered that the flower market be rather developed on the outskirts of the city.
“The president asked ACS Agriculture to search for a site in a peripheral area of the city, such as near the Dwarka highway, to ensure that the project does not cause any kind of congestion in Gurgaon,” said the official quoted above, adding that possibilities in this regard are currently being examined by ACS Agriculture in consultation with the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC).
