Gultekdi Flower Market resumes operations today | Pune News

Pune: The Agricultural Commodity Market Committee (APMC) will open its wholesale flower market in Gultekdi from June 18.
The market was closed from March 23 due to the lockdown.
BJ Deshmukh, Administrator of APMC, told TOI on Wednesday: “We have decided to open the market with 50% commission-based agent stores on a trial basis. After evaluating the situation, we will take a further decision. At the moment our priority is to avoid crowding the market as it will open after a three-month gap.”
Many growers have had to abandon flower plantations across the district due to the market closure. “Farmers in the district suffered huge losses as they had to dispose of their produce. This is a crucial time for them as the season of festivals like Ganapati, Navaratri and Diwali will be celebrated in the coming months. There is a demand for flowers in the market. , so we decided to open the market,” Deshmukh added.
APMC officials recently held a meeting with flower commissioners and briefed them on the problems they may face in the market once it starts. “The flower trade space is crowded and therefore overcrowding may occur. To avoid this, we have decided to open only half of the wholesale shops,” Deshmukh added.
