Kargil Diwas: India Honors 1999 War Heroes, Wreaths Lay on Martyrs | Latest India News

India celebrates the 23rd anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on Tuesday July 26, which commemorates the country’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 war. The battle between the nuclear weapon nations took place in the Kargil district of India. Ladakh and elsewhere along the Line of Control in 1999. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to war martyrs and laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in Delhi. The three service chiefs – Army Chief General Manoj Pande, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar and Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari – also paid their respects by laying wreaths at the National War Memorial in Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has led the nation to pay tribute to soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He said Kargil Vijay Diwas was a symbol of pride and glory for the country as he saluted the soldiers for fighting bravely for their homeland.

“Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of Maa Bharati’s pride and glory. On this occasion, my greetings to all the brave sons of the country who have accomplished their valor in the defense of the fatherland. Jai Hind! “, he said in a tweet.

Draupadi Murmu, who was sworn in as India’s president on Monday, said the day symbolizes the extraordinary valor of the armed forces and the people will always be indebted to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country.

“Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of the extraordinary bravery, might and determination of our armed forces. I bow down to all the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect Mother India. All compatriots will always be hers indebted, as well as to the members of his family. Jai Hind!” tweeted Murmu.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute and wrote: “Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of the indomitable courage and bravery of the Indian Armed Forces. Today is a day to be proud and to honor and remember the bravery of our soldiers.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid tribute to Kargil war heroes on the eve of Vijay Diwas. “I salute the valor and courage of our immortal heroes who fought to their last breath to protect the sovereignty and integrity of our great Nation, and recaptured our homeland’s territory in Kargil from the enemy” , did he declare.

The Indian Army is preparing to commemorate this day at the Kargil War Memorial. Attending will be military and civil administration dignitaries as well as gallantry recipients and their families.

A wreath laying ceremony is also held at Balidan Stambh in Jammu to honor the soldiers who lost their lives during the war.

What happened in 1999

In 1991, India launched Operation Vijay to clear positions in the high-altitude sector of Kargil, which was occupied by Pakistani soldiers and Kashmiri militants on the Indian side of the Line of Control.

The India-Pakistan war raged between May and July at Kargil and took about three months for Indian forces to retake the post.
