New Delhi: A businessman from Shalimar Bagh in northwest Delhi claimed on Saturday that he had paid ₹50 lakh ransom for the safe release of her son, who was abducted at gunpoint from his car near the Ghazipur flower market, allegedly by an unidentified man on Friday, police said on Monday.
The alleged kidnapper had driven the businessman’s son on the city’s roads for almost three hours during which he negotiated with his father the amount of the ransom.
The suspect first demanded ₹1 crore but after negotiation the amount was reduced to ₹50 lakh the businessman paid Ashok Vihar to get his son safely released, police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Priyanka Kashyap said on Saturday, businessman, Vikas Aggarwal, informed police about the abduction of his son, Kinshuk Aggarwal, by phone. The businessman, owner of a banquet hall in GT Karnal Road, told police that on Friday morning his son, accompanied by two employees, went to the flower market in Ghazipur to buy flowers for the decoration of the banquet hall.
Police said the two employees drove to the flower market while Kinshuk was sitting in the car. Suddenly, an unidentified man entered the car, pointed a gun at Kinshuk and threatened to kill him if he triggered the alarm. Afterwards, the man made Kinshuk talk to his father and asked him ₹1 crore for its safe release.
“Later, the matter was settled at ₹50 lakh, which plaintiff paid in Ashok Vihar area and got his son released. The businessman informed the police of the crime the following day. Subsequently, the police went to the complainant’s home and recorded Kinshuk’s statement. One case of kidnapping for ransom and threats at gunpoint was recorded. We are investigating the case,” DCP Kashyap added.
