Status of ‘Flower Market’ in Jammu – Latest News from Jammu and Kashmir | Tourism

We would like to know from the authorities of the Department of Floriculture where the Jammu Flower Market is located. This is by no means a critical satire, but a curious question related to how planning and projects are carried out in the floriculture department. We are given to understand that the necessary machines, etc. were duly purchased years ago for marketing purposes which, however, lie dormant and gather layers of dust.
A few days ago, we seriously explained to readers how a crop of fully bloomed flowers had been destroyed by farmers due to the very sharp drop in demand for flowers due to the coronavirus pandemic and associated lockdown. If there had been an arrangement to store hard-working cultivated flowers as was seen in 2007 by establishing a separate Directorate of Floriculture for the two regions with a Flower Mandi in the two capitals, the situation would not have reached that. pass as if to destroy the standing crop. While such Mandi is established and functioning in Srinagar, there is again the proverbial motherly treatment meted out in Jammu and till date, such bargain or Mandi in Jammu is brazenly denied. Farmers in Jammu cannot be neglected just because only marigold flowers are grown which comparatively has more immunity than other delicate flowers. Early attention is what is required in this matter by the government.
