Natasa Kajganic recalls her 2012 visit to the Columbia Road Flower Market in London, England, as an overall multi-sensory experience. “A narrow cobblestone road lined on both sides with tents overflowing with colorful flowers,” she recalls. “A smell of nature and freshness, while the sellers shouted their offers. Upon returning to Canada, she was surprised there wasn’t something similar here, so she decided to start Toronto’s first-ever flower market in 2013.
This first year had only 12 suppliers; now, more than three dozen florists share their beautiful bouquets at TD Commons Park at CAMH once a month during the summer, starting May 7. (They even hosted a virtual marketplace through Shopify in 2020.)
The Toronto Flower Market fosters connections between farmers, florists and consumers, she adds. “Only together can we develop lasting social impact, which in turn will benefit local economies and provide Canadians with the best quality flowers. »

Shannon Whelan, Euclid Farms (Queen West)
“I love grabbing the bunches from the market at the corner of Ave and Davenport. There are four flower markets in a row: Grower’s Flower Market & Gifts, Jong Young Flower Market, Ken’s Flowers and Yang’s Fruit & Flower Market. They offer lots of local flowers, so if you’re someone who likes to make your own arrangements at home, I highly recommend checking out these places.”
Christal Webber, Plant-Centered (Ajax)
“Crystal Star Nursery is a family run business in East Gwillimbury that offers a wide selection of plants, including beautiful flowering plants like orchids and hoyas, as well as many unique varieties that are suitable for all levels of plant owners. They are special in the plant community because they have been around for a long time and are run by great people.
Sylvia Cheng, Cultivate Tkaronto Floristry (the Junction)
“Garden Ardent is another florist urban farmer; they grow up and design in Markham. Winse Lam creates unique bouquets from specially cut flowers grown locally in her neighborhood. She has 6,000 specialty bulbs planted for spring 2022, so you can contact her for a stunning custom bouquet.
