ARLINGTON, Va., December 7, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Wreaths Across America (WAA) will take place at Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) and Soldiers and Airmen National Cemetery (SAHNC) on two different days this year, one reserved for pass holders. – pass family and the other to the public. On National Wreaths Day across America, the ANC will be one of 3,100 participating sites nationwide where wreaths are placed by a volunteer at the base of the headstone or niche of the a veteran’s columbarium to honor his legacy and remember his sacrifice. It will be the 30e year that the founder of the association, Morrill Worcester, will lay wreaths at the ANC. Below are event details and logistical information for anyone interested in volunteering.
Family Pass Holder Day:
On sunday december 12, in response to very positive feedback from family pass holders last year, family pass holders only are invited to lay WAA wreaths at the graves of their loved ones from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
There are no registration necessary for Family Pass Holders Day. Pedestrian and driver family pass holders must present their official ANC family pass (photocopies are not accepted) to receive a wreath in the funeral queues. The cemetery will be open to the general public; however, wreaths will not be awarded to the general public who do not present a family pass. WAA crowns will only be provided to family pass holders, one crown per relative.
If a family pass holder chooses to lay a wreath at the SAHNC, a wreath can be picked up from the ANC funeral lines and brought to the SAHNC.
National Wreaths Day Across America:
On saturday 18 december, members of the general public can participate in this year’s National Wreaths Across America Day from 8am.
Registration is required at https://learn.wreathsacrossamerica.org/anc2021. We are committed to ensuring the safety of all who want to participate. As such, we will have designated entrance gates and times for a limited number of registered volunteers to enter. Entry times will open as the previous hour is filled. The first wave of volunteers will be admitted at 8 a.m. saturday 18 december. Once the capacity has been reached for the first hour, the 9am hour will open, and so on until the daily capacity is reached.
Register at 1 of 3 locations:
1) south gate: Located at the end of South Gate Road, accessible from Columbia Pike and adjacent to the US Air Force Memorial. Is a 15-minute walk from the Pentagon metro station; walk west on Columbia Pike, under Rte. 27 overpass and to the intersection of Columbia Pike and S. Joyce St.
2) ANC main entrance on Memorial Avenue: Located at the end of Memorial Avenue, just west of Arlington Memorial Bridge and Potomac Park. It is a 5-minute walk from the Arlington Cemetery subway station; walk west on Memorial Avenue.
3) Order & Weitzel door: Located on the north side of the cemetery near the US Marine Corps Memorial (Iwo Jima). It is a 15 minute walk from the Rosslyn Subway station ; walk south on N. Meade St., cross Arlington Blvd. and pass through US Marine Corps Memorial Park.
Please be prepared for increased travel. We encourage you to take public transport, but please note that there may be delays on the metro due to reduced service levels. Please exit through the same door you entered and use the same metro station for your return journey.
The best option is to take the metro station closest to the door you signed up for: Pentagon subway for the south gate, Arlington Cemetery subway for the main entrance, and Rosslyn Subway to Ord & Weitzel door.
Customers traveling to the event by metro are encouraged to purchase their ticket in advance. The best option, to avoid queues, is SmarTrip mobile payment (https://wmata.com/fares/MobilePay/index.cfm). Download the SmarTrip app for iOS or Android to transfer an existing SmarTrip card to your mobile device or purchase a mobile SmarTrip card ($2 card charges apply). Add enough value for your round trip or buy a day pass for $13.
If you choose to arrive by rideshare (Uber or Lyft), the drop-off and pick-up location is at Hayes Lot at Pentagon City (1100 S Hayes St.).
Parking will be available in the Pentagon South Parking Lot and North Pentagon car park. As this is a walking event, please be prepared to walk to your registered gate from your subway or parking lot. You can access the ANC’s main gate on Memorial Ave. by footpaths from these two car parks. The ANC car park will be reserved for disabled parking only. There is no access for vehicles inside the cemetery.

To access the ANC car park, drivers must first go to the north parking lot of the Pentagon and show a handicapped placard or have a handicapped license plate. The drivers will then be escorted to the garage. This ADA accessible access point for parking is only available until 7:30 a.m.
After 7:30 a.m. or until the ANC parking lot is full, ADA-accessible volunteers must park in either the North Pentagon parking lot or the South Pentagon parking lot. There will be subway shuttles from the Pentagon subway station and the Pentagon North parking lot to the South Gate entrance. If you choose to follow this option, please register for volunteer entry at the South Gate entrance.
On, Saturday, January 22, 2022, the public is invited to Wreaths Out to help remove the wreaths from the headstones of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both the ANC and the SAAHC. The general public is welcome; no registration is required.
Arlington National Cemetery is complying with Department of Defense guidance and additional Force Health Protection guidance for the novel coronavirus outbreak, as well as current guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for this virus.
